A Princess in McQueen

photos coutesy of Vogue, gettyimages, fashionista

Until eleven o'clock last night, I was the Royal Wedding Grinch.  That's when Sarah--my sister--came in my room, hopped on my bed, and turned on BBC.  The conversation (no, lecture) persuaded me to watch the countdown, at least until I got sleepy.

... and yes, I stayed up to watch the ceremony.

The moment when Catherine was escorted out of the car, I thought what millions were thinking: hurry up! who is the dress by?! I was ecstatic that Catherine (Kate) chose Sarah Burton, the creative director of Alexander McQueen, to design her dress.  McQueen for a future Queen. Everything from the delicate veil, elegant laced sleeves, and the decadent silhouette, was fitted to perfection. She looked stunning & so poised. The whimsical ceremony was followed by their carriage riding past a cheerful crowd, and a memorable kiss on the balcony.

Lindsey Wixson--The New Face of Alexander McQueen

Besides the delicate beauty of a butterfly, I would like to interpret Sarah Burton's use of butterflies for the Alexander McQueen spring line as a fresh start and a transformation in the McQueen house. The late--and remarkably talented designer-- left the fashion world shocked when he committed suicide last February. By the looks of the first collection since McQueen's death, his legacy is clearly in good hands. You can judge for yourself from a previous post on the spring looks, here.
